Joe Bryant, the father of the late NBA star Kobe Bryant and a former professional basketball player himself, has passed away at the age of 69, according to La Salle University's announcement.

Bryant, known affectionately as "Jellybean," played eight seasons in the NBA with the Philadelphia 76ers, San Diego Clippers, and Houston Rockets. He was known for his quickness and ball-handling skills.

After retiring as a player, Bryant embarked on a successful coaching career, leading La Salle University's men's basketball team for 19 seasons. Under his leadership, the Explorers won two conference championships and advanced to the NCAA Tournament three times.

Joe Bryant's close relationship with his son Kobe was well-documented. He frequently attended Kobe's games and provided mentorship and support throughout his illustrious career.

The cause of death was a heart attack, according to La Salle University.
